The sport of horse racing has woven itself into the fabric of American entertainment and commerce over the course of the past century. Writer Mark Twain once justified the conflicting nature of man by reminding the public of its possible benefits. “Difference of opinion is a good thing,” Twain once said in a speech given at a University, “it led to the sport of horse racing.” Here are some basic horse racing tips that may help you correctly select a winning horse.
Variables such as weather, the horse’s record at the track, the jockey and the trainer are all commonly factored into a wagering decision. Experts are always tossing around horse betting tips and they are usually based on some insider knowledge about the horse’s recent training program or a jockey in excellent form. In spite of all of this, first-timers and casual gamblers have been known to pick winners based on nothing more than the prettiness of the horse’s mane or the colors of the jockey’s silks.
Serious gamblers often chart the odds of a horse from the early morning until post time. Since odds can fluctuate wildly based on a variety of factors, a horse that is slated to pay $10 on a $2 bet might get bet down to 3-1, where it would only pay $6 on a $2 bet. Charting the odds is certainly not a requirement of picking a winner, but it will give you a through understanding of where the money is landing and what you might stand to gain from a victory. Ultimately, the most important thing about going to the horse races is to enjoy yourself.
