Arsenal Fans
Arsenal Football Club commonly referred to as Arsenal or The Arsenal is one of the most greatly supported English football clubs. The fans are very dedicated and long-standing rivalries have developed with many other European football clubs. The most well known rivalry is with the team’s neighboring team, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. When these two teams play each other it is known as the North London derby.

Arsenal fans commonly refer to themselves as “Gooners,” which comes from the team’s nickname, “The Gunners.” The fan base is very large and loyal and usually sell out all of the home matches. Arsenal had the second highest average in the league for attendance of fans in 2007-2008. There were 60,070 fans that attended, which was 99.5% of stadium capacity. As of 2006, Arsenal is ranked fourth for highest average attendance of all time.
Arsenal also has many domestic supporters’ clubs, such as the Arsenal Independent Supporters’ Association and the Arsenal Football Supporters Club. Another supporter, the Arsenal Supporters’ Trust promotes fans’ participation in club ownership.
There are published fanzines that support Arsenal such as Up The Arse!, The Gooner, Gunflash, and Highbury High.
Arsenal fans sing the traditional football chants along with “Boring, Boring Arsenal” (when the team is playing good), and “One-Nil to the Arsenal.” There is also a club band called the Arsenal Away Boyz that praise players, the manager, and fans of the team by rewriting the lyrics to popular songs.
Arsenal has a large fan base outside of London and England. There are fans worldwide and as of 2007 there are 24 UK, 37 Irish, and 49 overseas Arsenal affiliated supporters clubs. In 2005, Granada Ventures reported that Arsenal had a worldwide fan base of 27 million supporters, making it the third largest fan base in the world.

Funny Sports Story
If you want to experience a funny sports story, then you
should make a point to attend a Premier League football match. It is
not too often that you get to see a wonderful sports even in live
action, but heading to a game in the Premiership will afford you plenty
of opportunities that most sports fans never get to experience. If you
can’t "get tickets for the Premiership" (Dale Witter 2009), then perhaps you should
try to attend an international event. The first time I attended a World Cup game, I was able to see one of the funniest things that I have ever
witnessed at a venue.

I had "World Cup tickets" (Douglass Hutchinson 2009) in hand, and I was incredibly excited about the day to come. I could have never guessed what would happen when I got there, though. England was playing the Netherlands, and it was an intense match. I have been able to get an FA Cup ticket before, so I know all too well what can happen when intense fans get around players who are similarly hyped up.
At this World Cup match, there was one individual who was there to support the Dutch
side. He had the entire ensemble of gear on, including full face paint
and full body paint. From head to toe, he was the perfect supporter of
his side. The problem was that he had a loud mouth that he could not
back up. He spent the entire time on the second row, shouting out
obscenities and angry words at the "English players" (English players 2009). It was obviously
nothing that they had not seen before, so they were able to shake it
off, but this guy was set up for disaster. And then it happened. An
English player fired a shot that went just wide, but before it hit the
stands, it drilled the fan right in the face. We all shared a laugh at
his expense, and he wasn’t the same the rest of the match.
